peter and the wolf

premiere: October 23-26, 2014; ODC Theater, San Francisco

Dancers and jazz musicians come together to tell the provocative story of a young innocent who ventures into the forest and meets a wolf. Peter and the Wolf is an evening length dance work inspired by Sergei Prokofiev's beloved score. With choreography by Megan and Shannon Kurashige set to a new score led by trumpet player Theo Padouvas, this production abandons the tradition of staid accompanists sitting at the edge of the stage. The musicians move, portray characters, and explore a very human aspect of movement alongside the dancers' own physically extravagant language.

Performance photography by Benjamin Hersh.
